"It's not about what I want.
It's about representing the voice of the voters." ~Jason Struthers
Hello Everyone,
I am running for City Council and hope to earn your vote. People in Essex Junction want new faces with fresh perspectives. I am dedicated to serving the community and will bring your voice to the Council with goals of transparency, oversight, and a conservative approach to spending. I believe community engagement is paramount to the health of our City. Far too few residents attend Council meetings, with even fewer voicing their opinions. We can change this! Essex Junction has been my home for 42 years. I am a product of the Junction’s school system and a proud parent of two teenagers. I began skydiving at the age of 17, amassing 5500 skydives and 130 BASE jumps. While learning to skydive, I attended Castleton University, acquiring degrees in Biology and Chemistry and graduated with honors. As a skydiving instructor, I was responsible for the lives of thousands of students. It taught me how to be a team player, while at the same time, holding my position. Skydiving also taught me valuable lessons on mitigating risks and developed my ability to remain composed when things go wrong in stressful situations. Following University, I started a family and built our home while working in the biopharmaceutical industry. I specialized in purifying bone proteins for pharmaceutical implants. An industry where communication and teamwork are critical, in conjunction with extreme accuracy and precision. In 2011, I sustained a burst fracture in my thoracic spine. The miracles of modern medicine afforded me with a titanium vertebrae and stabilized my spinal cord. Following my accident, my father passed and I became the full time caretaker for my mother. Other activities I have enjoyed over the years are SCUBA diving, playing music, rock climbing, paragliding, flying airplanes and riding motorcycles. My most recent endeavors include organic farming and Cannabis cultivation. Producing organic fruits, vegetables, eggs, livestock, and medicine for the community has been a pleasure. I feel that producing local food and medicine not only benefits our health, but the climate as well. For those that only know me from my time speaking in City Hall, or in recent news coverage, please take the time to meet me in person. I believe representation requires accepting and supporting interests that you may not agree with. I believe my varied background and experiences will be of great value and benefit to the Council. With a fresh perspective, I can make your voice heard. Thank you for your consideration. |
